Fairway houses sit close together on streets laid out in the late 1930s, and our movers plan each load around that. We take apart beds, bookshelves, and desks and rebuild them at the new house at no extra charge. Every item is fully insured from the first box to the last.
City bulk pickup takes two items a month, which may not cover a whole house cleanout. Our movers pack and haul away old furniture, appliances, construction debris, and green waste. Recycling and responsible disposal come first.
A local move is billed by the hour for two movers and a truck. Minimums vary by season: 2-hour minimum, or 3-hour minimum during peak season (May through September).
Our movers handle upright and grand pianos on stairs and around tight corners, and each piano is secured in the truck for the ride. We move pianos locally and on long distance moves that start in Kansas City.

Hours are what move the total. Porch steps, basement stairs, and second floors each add time. A long walk from the curb to the door adds more. Full packing takes longer than a home you pack yourself, and a longer drive between houses adds hours. Elevators at an apartment or condo can slow the unload.

The J.C. Nichols Company opened Fairway in early 1938, and the city incorporated in 1949. Today about 1,800 homes share just over one square mile. With houses this close together, we ask where the truck can park so it does not block a neighbor’s drive.
Fairway calls itself the City of Trees, and the Nichols Company planted trees along the streets before the first homes went up. Mature branches can hang low over driveways and curbs. Tell us if your drive has low limbs, and we plan to load from the street instead.
Fairway asks residents to set carts within 3 feet of the curb, with 4 feet of space from parked cars and other objects. A moving truck at the curb on collection day can crowd that space. Tell us your pickup day, and we either book around it or park so the carts stay clear.
Fairway’s GFL program takes two bulk items a month for free, on the first and third Mondays. It does not take appliances with CFCs, tires, auto parts, hazardous materials, or TVs and monitors. Anything past that limit is a job for our junk removal service.

Fairway is in the Shawnee Mission School District. Schools that serve the city include Westwood, Highlands, and Roesland elementary schools, Indian Hills Middle School, and Shawnee Mission East High School.
